Bit.Trip Rerunner marks the triumphant return of the beloved Bit.Trip series

A Fascinating Update

Introduced by Choice Provisions (formerly known as Gaijin Games) in 2009, the captivating Bit.Trip series has persevered through various challenges. Its ability to thrive after its humble beginnings on the often criticized (yet beautifully scored) WiiWare service nearly 15 years ago is a testament to its enduring appeal. Now, this exceptional series is venturing into the realm of creativity with the release of Bit.Trip Rerunner, a brand new addition to the franchise.

Originally comprising of six games (Beat, Core, Void, Runner, Fate, and Flux), the Bit.Trip series experienced a surge in popularity with the Runner game, inspiring two numbered sequels and one free mobile spin-off. Notably, these games prominently featured Charles Martinet, renowned for providing the voice of Mario. Thus, it’s only fitting for the Bit.Trip Runner subseries to follow in Mario’s footsteps with this exciting new “Maker” title.

While information is currently limited, the Choice Provisions Twitter page reveals that Rerunner will offer “Over 150 new levels, each with increasing challenges,” a new “Runner-Maker tool to create and share your own levels,” and “gameplay mechanics inspired by the original Bit.Trip games.”

The most anticipated feature among devoted Bit.Trip fans is the option to play with the original voxel visual style. Just as Mario Maker spoiled players with various modes such as Mario 1, 3, World, and “New”, the Bit.Trip Runner series has previously showcased five distinctly different visual styles in its games, including voxel, Atari 2600-style flat sprites, NES-style sprites, 2D drawings, and rounded polygons. Hence, the game already offers a wide range of visual options.

We eagerly await the opportunity to witness Rerunner in action and see if it encompasses all four of these visual styles!

“The beach, the trees, even the clouds in the sky… everything is build from little tiny pieces of stuff. Just like in a Gameboy game… a nice tight little world… and all its inhabitants… made out of little building blocks… Why can’t these little pixels be the building blocks for love..? For loss… for understanding”- James Kochalka, Reinventing Everything part 1
“I wonder if James Kolchalka has played Mother 3 yet?” Jonathan Holmes
