Tidal has joined the ranks of Apple Music, Deezer, and Amazon Music in raising the price of its base HiFi subscription. Starting August 1st, the cost of an individual membership will increase by $1 to $11 per month in the US, while the family plan will be priced at $17 per month, a $2 increase. According to Billboard, price increases are also expected in other markets.
Engadget has confirmed that Tidal’s HiFi Plus tier, priced at $20 per month, will remain unaffected. This plan includes exciting features such as Dolby Atmos Music, Sony 360 Audio, and Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) tracks. For now, there are no modifications to the free tier, student plan, and discounted military membership.
Recently, several of Tidal’s competitors have raised their prices. Both Deezer and Apple Music increased their individual plan rates to $11 per month in late 2022. Amazon Music followed suit in February.
Unlike its counterparts, Spotify has maintained a consistent $10 per month pricing for its individual plan in the US since 2011. However, speculation suggests that a price revision is imminent, as indicated by recent comments made by CEO Daniel Ek. Additionally, rumors float around the launch of Spotify’s long-awaited high-fidelity plan, expected to arrive this year and potentially include audiobooks.
