Report: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Delayed Again Following Fan Outcry

The release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed once again, according to reports. WB Games has pushed back the launch date of their upcoming DC Comics looter-shooter from May 26 to a later date this year. This decision comes after fan backlash following a recent PlayStation showcase of the game, where fans expressed disappointment over developer Rocksteady Studios’ shift to a live-service model instead of their traditional single-player Batman storylines. However, sources confirm that the delay is primarily to address bugs and ensure a polished launch, and that the core gameplay will not be affected by the fan backlash.

Interestingly, this reported delay works in favor of Rocksteady’s latest game. It removes major competition, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (May 12), Street Fighter 6 (June 2), and Diablo IV (June 6), allowing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to shine in a less crowded release window. The game was initially scheduled for release last year but was delayed for optimization purposes.

The State of Play presentation from last month confirmed suspicions and leaks that the game would feature a battle pass system and menu elements associated with a live-service title. However, all unlocks in the game will be purely cosmetic, and Rocksteady promises ongoing support for the game post-launch, including new playable characters, missions, and weapons, all at no extra cost. The studio has also confirmed that there will be no loot boxes.

In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players can choose from four key Task Force X characters – Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark – and embark on a mission to defeat Justice League members under Brainiac’s mind control. The game focuses on a four-player co-op system but can also be played solo, with AI taking control of the remaining squad members. However, the game’s FAQ page confirms that it will require a continuous internet connection to launch, even in solo mode. The co-op features of the game are robust, offering full cross-platform support at launch. While a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership is not necessary to run the game on consoles, it will be required for online co-op.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set within the Arkhamverse, unlike another WB Games-published co-op title Gotham Knights, which was released last year. Although Gotham Knights lacked optimization and experienced performance issues on PC, the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions were locked at 30fps.

On a different note, WB Games’ first title of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy, has been a huge success, selling over 12 million copies within the first two weeks of launch. This achievement is noteworthy considering the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling’s views. Currently, Avalanche Software is working on the old-gen PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, which have been delayed to May 5.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled for release later this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
