This new feature allows players to answer Discord calls directly from their console, although they will need to transfer the call from their PC or phone app to the system. To enable this feature, users must first link their Discord account by accessing the ‘Linked Services’ in the PS5 settings. In addition to Discord integration, the version 7 update offers screen-sharing functionality, the ability to record gameplay using voice commands, and the option to transfer saved data between PlayStation consoles.
According to a report by The Verge, the Discord integration currently only supports voice calls and does not include text messages or access to servers. However, it is worth noting that it took Xbox quite some time to integrate Discord directly onto their console, with the feature being introduced in November of last year. Hopefully, Sony’s integration is just the first step towards providing a more comprehensive Discord experience on PlayStation.
The new Discord integration on the PS5 is a major boon for cross-play, as it enables seamless voice communication across different platforms. Once set up, players have control over their volume, the ability to mute audio, and the option to minimize the Discord interface while continuing to play their games.

Similar to Steam, the home screen of a selected game will display a ‘Friends Who Play’ tile, showing which friends from the user’s friend list also own the same game.
The update, which has a file size of 1.1GB, also simplifies saved data migration. When installing a PS4 game on the PS5, a pop-up notification appears, allowing players to download and sync their saved data from the PlayStation Network’s cloud storage for future use. It is important to note that online save storage requires a PS Plus subscription. Moreover, the PS5 now offers a data transfer feature, allowing users to swiftly and easily transfer games, saved data, user profiles, settings, and screenshots to another system using local Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.
PS5 owners in the US and UK can now enjoy a game capture preview that enables hands-free recording through voice commands. By simply saying, “Hey PlayStation, capture that!”, users can save a short video clip of their most recent gameplay. The duration of the clip can be personalized, ranging from 15 seconds to an entire hour. Alternatively, users can initiate manual gameplay capture by saying, “Hey PlayStation, start recording!”, which will continue until instructed to stop.
