Maximizing Stagger Damage: Unveiling the Best Abilities in Final Fantasy XVI

The action combat system in Final Fantasy XVI provides players with a high degree of freedom when it comes to dealing with enemies. Players can utilize a variety of abilities to combo mobs and defeat them. However, this approach doesn’t apply to larger enemies whose actions cannot be interrupted. As a result, Clive’s combo potential and damage output are limited.

To overcome this limitation, players can decrease the enemy’s Stagger Bar by using attacks that deal Wil damage. By doing so, Clive can knock down these enemies, rendering them defenseless for a short period of time. This is the perfect opportunity to unleash a devastating series of attacks.

Optimizing Damage During Stagger in Final Fantasy XVI

One essential ability to use against staggered enemies in Final Fantasy XVI is Shiva’s Eikonic Feat, Coldsnap. Inflicting Frostbite with this ability freezes the Stagger Bar, giving players more time to deal damage. Before the enemy is staggered and frozen, it is recommended to use Wings of Light to cast Megaflare. This increases the damage over time as players execute their combo on the staggered enemy. After knocking down and freezing the enemy, players should immediately activate Limit Break and use Odin’s Zantetsuken, charging it to the maximum level before the enemy is staggered. Abilities such as Dancing Steel and the Arm of Darkness Eikonic Feat can be used to achieve this.

After using Zantetsuken, it’s time to unleash a series of devastating abilities. Players can use Shiva’s Diamond Dust and Ramuh’s Judgment Bolt, followed by activating Lighting Rod. Using Odin’s Dancing Steel allows players to charge another Level 5 Zantetsuken and activate the rod for additional damage. Completing the combo with Bahamuth’s Gigaflare and Phoenix’s Flames of Rebirth deals massive damage that can eliminate any enemy in Story-Focused or Action-Focused modes. In Final Fantasy and Ultimaniac Mode, this combo may not be sufficient to defeat heavy enemies and bosses, but it will still deal substantial damage, resulting in a shorter battle.

Since players need to unlock all Eikon and their most powerful abilities, the above combo can only be utilized during the final segments of Final Fantasy XVI. However, those who are still progressing through the main campaign may want to use other techniques to maximize damage. Ramuh’s Lighting Rod is a useful ability in this regard as it creates a ball of lightning that chains to nearby enemies. Using any area-of-effect or multi-hit attack will trigger the chain. Ifrit’s Will o’ the Wykes, which summons fireballs to damage nearby targets, can be used repeatedly to trigger Lighting Rod and deal significant damage while allowing players to freely attack with any other ability or Eikon ability. Lighting Rod synergizes well with many other abilities, including Gouge, Thunderstorm, Raging Fists, and Dancing Steel. Mastering Lighting Rod and equipping it to any Eikon should be a top priority, ensuring players are not limited to Ramuh and can reap the benefits of more useful Eikonic Feats than Blind Justice.
