Completing OG Resident Evil 2 is Possible Without Taking a Single Step

The Art of Slowrunning in Resident Evil 2

Looking for a challenge that defies the need for speed? Enter the world of slowrunning in the 1998 classic, Resident Evil 2. In this unique twist, players can actually complete the entire game without ever taking a single step.

This groundbreaking accomplishment was demonstrated by Twitch streamer and speedrunner, Punchy, as reported by PCGamesN. Punchy uploaded a 40-minute highlight video on YouTube, showcasing their journey to finish Resident Evil 2 without any physical movement. The end result? A monumental feat that took an astounding 13 hours and 34 minutes!

To accomplish this, Punchy established a set of rules. They were not allowed to initiate walking by pressing the D-pad, but they could freely change directions and walk upstairs using the use button’s automatic animation.

The Method Behind the Madness

Punchy’s method of movement involved a slight shift of Leon by simply aiming the gun. Progress was painfully slow, with the first three screens alone taking approximately five minutes to navigate.

One major hurdle encountered was the auto-aim feature in the Japanese version of Resident Evil 2, which Punchy was playing. Off-screen enemies posed a challenge as Leon struggled to make forward progress.

The ultimate challenge surfaced during the final boss sequence, accompanied by a five-minute timer. Given Leon’s sluggish movement, completing this segment seemed insurmountable.

However, Punchy discovered a solution. By aiming the magnum down at the ground, Leon can generate enough push to reach the end of the game before the timer expires.

The streamer acknowledges that this run was not optimal. If you’re up for the challenge, Punchy has shown that beating the original Resident Evil 2 without moving is indeed possible. Just be prepared for one of the slowest gameplay sessions of your life.
