Twitter’s ‘X’ Now Available on Android and iOS; Tweets Now Called ‘Posts’

Twitter has undergone a rebranding, now known as X, under the ownership of Elon Musk. Musk announced that the platform has reached new heights with over 540 million monthly users, compared to 229 million in May 2022. Since taking over in November 2022, Musk has implemented changes such as significant layoffs and appointing Linda Yaccarino as CEO. However, Twitter still faces challenges with its advertisement revenue.

The mobile application icons for Twitter on Android and iOS have also been updated to reflect the new branding. The Twitter 10.1.0-beta.1 version on some Android devices now appears as ‘X Beta,’ while the apk file remains com.twitter.android. On Apple’s iOS, the updated logo is present, but the name remains unchanged. Additionally, the “Tweet” option on the homepage of the Android app has been changed to “Post,” aligning with Musk’s goal of rebranding and transforming Twitter into “the Everything App.”

However, Musk’s rebranding may face potential legal challenges, as the letter X and its associated symbols are widely used and claimed by other companies. Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, holds a trademark for a blue-and-white letter X in the software and social media fields. Microsoft also has an X trademark related to its Xbox video-game system. While legal action is unlikely unless Twitter’s X threatens these companies’ brand equity, previous rebrandings, such as Meta’s transition from Facebook, have faced legal backlash.
