Deadline to Redeem PlayStation Plus Collection: 19-Game Collection to Close on May 9

Sony will be discontinuing the PlayStation Plus Collection in the near future. For those unfamiliar, this catalog includes a selection of PS4 games that can be freely downloaded and played by any PS5 owner who subscribes to the PS Plus service. However, as of May 9, the opportunity to redeem the 19-game collection will no longer be available. It’s important to note that a PS Plus membership will still be required to access these games even after the closure, as they cannot be permanently owned. It’s worth mentioning that the collection originally contained 20 games, but one title, the beloved JRPG Persona 5, was removed last year.

The PlayStation Plus Collection was introduced as part of the PS5’s launch in late 2020. This was intended to incentivize the purchase of the current-gen console, as it initially lacked exclusive launch titles. While Sony hasn’t provided an explicit reason for this decision, it has recently offered limited-time discounts on its higher-tier subscriptions, such as PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium, in an effort to encourage subscribers on the base Essential plan to upgrade.

Additionally, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan confirmed last month that the PS5 supply shortage should no longer be an issue. Coupled with the console now boasting an extensive library of its own, it’s possible that Sony no longer sees the need to offer these freebies.

As previously mentioned, the PS Plus collection consists of 19 games, which can be categorized into 10 first-party and nine third-party releases.

Sony also unveiled the four free games available to all PS Plus members this month. Commencing on February 7, members with PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Deluxe subscriptions will have the opportunity to add the critically acclaimed Mafia remake, the vibrant skateboarding game Olli Olli World, Destiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion, and Evil Dead: The Game, a bloody 4v1 shooter adaptation based on filmmaker Sam Raimi’s iconic film series.

In India, the PlayStation Plus subscription starts at Rs. 499 per month for the Essential plan, Rs. 749 per month for the Extra plan, and Rs. 849 per month for the top-tier Deluxe subscription.
