The renowned art director, Nitin Desai, was tragically found dead at his N D Studio in Karjat. While the police have yet to provide further information about his death, initial reports suggest that he may have taken his own life. Police are currently investigating the scene. Nitin is said to have taken his life at 4 a.m. after a call was made from the studio. No suicide note has been discovered at this time. Reports indicate that the art director was facing financial difficulties and his studio was not running smoothly, but the police have not confirmed this.
Nitin began his career as an art director with the film Parinda in 1989. He went on to work on numerous other notable projects such as 1942: A Love Story (1993), Khamoshi: The Musical (1995), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Mission Kashmir (2000), Raju Chacha (2000), Devdas (2002), Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003), Dostana (2008), Panipat (2019), and Paurashpur (2019). His most recent Bollywood project as an art director was Paurashpur, in which he was also credited as a production designer.
Throughout his career, Nitin received four National Awards for his outstanding work on films such as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (2000), Lagaan (2002), and Devdas (2003). He also earned three Filmfare Awards and contributed to the stage design for the awards ceremony.
In 2005, Nitin established ND Studios in Karjat, which became a popular filming location for many Bollywood movies.
