Tears of the Kingdom Sold 18.5 Million Units in 1.5 Months

Nintendo has released its financial results for Q1 2023 (April-June), and the numbers confirm the phenomenal success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The sequel to Breath of the Wild sold a staggering 18.5 million units in just over a month. This achievement is even more impressive when considering that the game was released on the Nintendo Switch console on May 12th and the quarter ended on June 30th.

Nintendo had previously disclosed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom surpassed 10 million units in sales within the first three days of its launch. These sales figures come as no surprise, given the incredible critical reception of the game. With an average critic score of 96 on both OpenCritic and Metacritic, it has earned a place among the highest-rated games of all time.

Nate Birch from Wccftech, while not as enthusiastic as others, gave The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a solid rating of 9 out of 10 in his review.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Tears of the Kingdom, towards the end of my playthrough, I experienced a rare desire to wrap things up and conclude the game. This sensation was not present when I played Breath of the Wild, as I was completely engrossed and immersed in its world. While the sequel may not fully replicate the enchanting moments of the first game, it would be unfair to expect it to do so, considering the nature of the project. Nonetheless, I have logged over 60 hours of gameplay in Tears of the Kingdom and will undoubtedly invest even more hours into the game, albeit perhaps not with the same fervor as I did with Breath of the Wild.

In addition to the impressive sales figures, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has also gained popularity among PC gamers who are using emulators like Ryujinx and Yuzu to play the game. These emulators also allow various gameplay mods, which we have outlined in this article.

Turning to other notable news from the earnings release, the Nintendo Switch has now sold a total of 129.53 million units, with 3.91 million units sold in the last quarter. The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has contributed to this achievement by boosting sales of various Mario titles. One standout title is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold an additional 1.67 million copies in the last quarter, bringing its lifetime sales to an impressive 55.46 million units. The continuous updates for the game have kept it a favorite among fans, with the latest update released just last month.

In other Nintendo news, rumors about the Switch 2 are gaining momentum. Speculation about potential specs has recently emerged, and there are even rumors suggesting that Nintendo may announce the new console platform during Gamescom, which is scheduled for late August.
