The film industry was shocked by the sudden suicide of esteemed art director Nitin Desai. His untimely demise brought sorrow to his family and loved ones. The funeral, attended by various well-known figures from the Hindi and Marathi film fraternities, took place on Friday. Speaking exclusively to news agency ANI, Nitin Desai’s daughter, Mansi Desai, discussed the loan her father had taken from a finance company. She also highlighted the impact of the pandemic on the film industry and praised her father’s efforts in negotiating with the company.

Mansi Desai stated, “On behalf of my mother, my entire family, and myself, I would like to address my father’s (Nitin Desai) decision to leave us. Our statement aims to counter misinformation and present the truth. My father borrowed a loan amounting to 181 crores, of which he repaid 86.31 crores. All payments were completed by February 2020. The finance company also demanded an advance interest payment for six months, which my father fulfilled by selling his office in Powai.”

Furthermore, Mansi Desai affirmed that her father had no intention of deceiving anyone and consistently made timely payments. Reflecting on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on her father’s work, she said, “In 2020, the world was at a standstill due to Covid, and the Bollywood industry faced severe repercussions. As a result, there was a lack of work, and the studio was forced to close temporarily, leading to delayed payments. However, before that, my father had fulfilled all his repayment obligations. Even afterward, he made repeated attempts to communicate with the finance company, urging them to consider restructuring, provide assistance, or facilitate a one-time settlement or revised payment terms.”
