Mortal Kombat 1 has excited fans with the announcement that Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik will be returning as playable fighters. In addition, Sareena will make an appearance as one of the 12 Kameos.
The latest trailer, titled ‘The Banished’, was unveiled at EVO 2023 by developer NetherRealm. It showcased the four characters in action, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. Reptile, in particular, sports a new look with a fully human face, vibrant green eyes, tattoos, and a striking green tunic with a long sash. This sash alludes to Reptile’s ability to transform into his lizard-like Saurian form at will.

In previous iterations of the Mortal Kombat series, Reptile has typically been portrayed as an antagonist, aligning himself with those who possess the power to revive his race. However, the younger, more comical version of Reptile seen in this trailer fights to protect Earthrealm instead.
Ashrah, a demon hunter from the Netherrealm, struggles with her decision to abandon her demonic heritage, earning the ire of her sisters. She last appeared as a playable character in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and wields a sword that cleanses her soul with each strike.
Havik, hailing from the Chaosrealm and introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deception, has no interest in maintaining a balance between good and evil. The trailer showcases his partnership with Sareena, who appears in her fiery demonic form as an occasional assist character known as a Kameo.
As of now, the roster of playable fighters in Mortal Kombat 1 includes a diverse range of characters such as Ashrah, Baraka, Ermac, Geras, Havik, Homelander, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Kitana, Kung Lao, Li Mei, Liu Kang, Mileena, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Raiden, Rain, Reptile, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Takeda, and Tanya.
