Apple’s M3 Max MacBook Pro rumored to have 40 GPU cores and up to 48GB of RAM

During the weekend, technology journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg conducted an in-depth analysis of the specifications of a Mac Mini being tested with the latest generation of Apple Silicon. Today, he brings us the news that the high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro will feature a version of the M3 Max chip, which boasts 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and up to 48GB of memory.

With numerous rumors surrounding Apple’s hardware refresh cycle, it is evident that summer is coming to an end and we are transitioning into the fall season. Apple has recently introduced the new Mac Pro, although it may not be as groundbreaking as anticipated. Nonetheless, the M3 refresh cycle is expected to commence soon. Over the next year, starting in October, we can anticipate the release of new MacBooks (Pro and Air), Mac Mini models, and iMac desktops. According to Gurman, the updated 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are likely to hit the market in 2024.

According to the report, Gurman has access to test logs from a third-party app developer that reveal a division in the CPU cores. The M3 Max chip is expected to feature 12 high-performance cores (four more than the current M2 Max chip in laptops) and four efficiency cores (the same number as the M2 Max). This configuration aims to enhance processing power for tasks such as video editing or heavy data crunching while maintaining similar battery life compared to previous MacBook Pro models.
