Disney CEO Admits Performances of Recent Movies Have Been ‘Disappointing’

Disney CEO, Bob Iger, acknowledges the underwhelming performance of recent movies like Haunted Mansion and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. While it may seem gloomy at first glance, Iger provides some perspective on Disney’s overall success in the past decade, which includes billion-dollar hits like Avatar: The Way of Water and Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

However, Iger admits that the recent box office results have been disappointing and emphasizes the studio’s commitment to enhancing the quality and performance of future films. He personally vows to dedicate more time and attention to this aspect.

Despite the recent setbacks, it’s important to note that not all of Disney’s recent releases have struggled. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had a strong debut, although it experienced a decline afterwards. Additionally, The Little Mermaid live-action remake performed decently, although not as well as other remakes. Moreover, the film Elemental initially had a poor start but has managed to make a surprising comeback over the weeks.

While Disney’s recent performance may be considered uneven, the upcoming animated films Wish and Elio, along with the live-action Snow White remake, have the potential to reshape the narrative.

During the earnings call, Disney also announced plans for price hikes on Disney+ and hinted at cracking down on password sharing, taking inspiration from Netflix. Furthermore, Disney continues to remove content from its service.
