7 beginner tips for braving the sands in Atlas Fallen – Destructoid

Embarking on the journey through the treacherous sands of Atlas Fallen can feel overwhelming for beginners. The harsh dunes and relentless sun god can pose significant challenges. To aid you in your quest to conquer Thelos in Atlas Fallen, we have compiled 7 valuable tips for beginners.

Experiment with the Knuckledust weapon

While you begin with the Dunecleaver and Sandwhip unlocked, you will soon acquire the powerful Knuckledust weapon. This fist weapon has the potential to inflict massive damage.

Interestingly, I played a substantial portion of Atlas Fallen before trying out the Knuckledust. Once I gave it a chance, I never looked back as it complements the Sandwhip perfectly. It might become your preferred weapon as well.

Adopt a strong offense as a means of defense when facing multiple enemies

When confronted with a horde of weaker enemies, potentially accompanied by a stronger adversary, instinct might drive you to play it safe and evade constantly. However, I have found this approach to be quite challenging at times. It seems that the enemy attacks align perfectly once I face multiple foes simultaneously. Evading or parrying multiple attacks becomes exceedingly troublesome.

On the other hand, focusing your attacks on a single weaker enemy allows you to eliminate a threat swiftly. By doing so, you reduce the number of incoming attacks and consequently enhance your defensive capabilities. Launching an offensive often proves advantageous defensively.

Seek out pulsing blue lights in the sand to uncover hidden objects

The Gauntlet grants you the ability to Raise objects from beneath the sand, aside from combat applications. Sometimes, this reveals an anvil for upgrading, healing, and fast travel. Other times, it unveils a structure for climbing, leading to elevated areas housing valuable treasures.

Additionally, you can use this ability to Raise chests full of Essence, Shards, and equipment that can enhance your overall performance.

Engage in sidequests

Although sidequests may not directly impact the storyline, they often offer rewarding benefits. Taking a break from the main quest and visiting quest hubs to undertake sidequests can yield valuable items. These quests are often clustered together within a particular region, enabling you to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

Remember to review the rewards afterward, as you may acquire an item that complements your preferred playstyle.

Utilize parrying in addition to evasion

Once you have mastered the art of evading, it may seem natural to utilize this maneuver for every incoming attack. However, successfully parrying an attack can be even more advantageous than evading. Keep a close eye on the enemy’s red flash before an attack, indicating the opportunity to parry. Some attacks may require multiple subsequent parries to be fully nullified, so persevere.

Regularly check the inventory of new vendors you encounter

Throughout your journey in Atlas Fallen, numerous vendors will cross your path. Most are located in villages, quest hubs, and key story areas.

Vendors offer various items to aid your progress, such as equipment, Idols, and Essence Stones. Keep an eye out for the Travelling Vendor, who constantly roams the world. You can spot him by his kite soaring high in the sky, indicating his current location. Defeating certain encounters may prompt the Travelling Merchant to update his inventory, so make sure to frequent his stall.

Remember to utilize your Shatter ability

In the midst of intense battles, it is easy to overlook the potency of your Shatter attack. Keep in mind that it depletes the Momentum Bar, causing the Essence Stones you have enough Momentum for to lose their effect.

Nevertheless, Shatter boasts immense strength. If you are running low on healing resources and find yourself on the brink of vanquishing a formidable foe, but unsure if you will survive long enough, do not hesitate to use Shatter. When executed with a completely filled Momentum Bar, it can inflict astronomical damage. It is often prudent to utilize Shatter rather than saving Momentum.

These beginner tips will undoubtedly prove invaluable as you bravely traverse the desert landscapes of Atlas Fallen.
