In preparation for Independence Day 2023, security measures in Delhi have been heightened, leading to the suspension of an essential service provided by Indian Railways. Beginning from August 12 to August 15, the railways have temporarily halted the parcel service at multiple railway stations in Delhi due to security concerns. This means that if you need to send your bike, scooter, or any other goods to Delhi using the rail parcel service, you will have to wait for three to four days. However, the option to send registered magazines and papers as parcels will remain available.

According to the Railways, the suspension of the parcel service is part of the security arrangements for Independence Day. Starting from August 12, parcel service will be unavailable at New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarah Rohilla, and Adarsh Nagar Delhi railway stations until August 15, 2023.

However, the transportation of parcels containing registered newspapers and magazines will continue without interruption. Parcel godowns and platforms will be free from parcel packages and packing materials. Both inbound and outbound traffic, including leased SLR, AGC, and VPS, will be prohibited at all stations.

The Railways has stated that the suspension of commercial parcel services will begin on August 12. However, passengers will still be allowed to carry their luggage onboard the coach. Booking of registered newspapers and magazines will also be permitted after fulfilling all commercial formalities. This restriction also applies to trains originating from other divisions/zones that stop in the Delhi area for loading/unloading purposes. No parcels will be accepted for booking at these stations from August 12 to August 15, 2023.

Employees have been instructed to thoroughly check each coach of the train upon arrival at the station before sending them to the yard. Empty trains on the yard or platform must not be left open, and their doors should be securely locked. Regular inspections of two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked in the railway station premises are also required. An investigation campaign has been initiated for passenger trains.
