Exciting news has arrived! The highly-anticipated remastered version of Quake 2 is finally here, and we have Nightdive Studios to thank for bringing it to life. While the original game from id Software is enough to satisfy fans (especially those who love the 1997 release), there’s even more to look forward to.
A recent Twitter post by Laced Records, a company known for producing vinyl soundtracks for video games, reveals that Quake 2‘s music will also be unleashed. The tweet includes a link to their website, where two versions of the soundtrack are available, one of which is a limited edition.

While both versions come at a price of $38 each, the limited edition includes “two solid red and orange A-side/B-side effect LPs,” which adds a touch of elegance as seen in the captivating images.
But when will it be available?
Hold your horses. The Quake 2 vinyl soundtrack is not yet released. According to the website, both versions will be available in January 2024, but you can already secure your copy by pre-ordering now.
The game’s soundtrack holds a special place in our hearts, delving more into the realms of rock and metal compared to the ambient sounds of NIN in the original Quake game. Sonic Mayhem, known for their work on soundtracks for games like The Division and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, collaborated with Jer Sypult to create Q2‘s music. Additionally, acclaimed horror director and musician Rob Zombie contributed to the game’s main theme.
Despite its age of over two decades, Quake 2 remains a significant part of 90s gaming, particularly within the FPS genre. Although it may not have had the same seismic impact as the first Quake or the original Doom entries, it has solidified its status as a classic. Now, with this remastered version (and soon the vinyl soundtrack), we can fully immerse ourselves in its greatness.
