Overwatch 2 has garnered the unfortunate distinction of being the lowest-rated game on Steam, with over 110,000 votes giving it an abysmal overall score of 0.94 out of 10.
Metro has reported that Steam250, the website that calculates game ratings using live reviews data from Steam, places the hero shooter at the very bottom of the platform’s game list.
Currently, Overwatch 2 is ranked lower than the free-to-play strategy card game War of the Three Kingdoms, the long-running “early access” god game Godus, the criticized looter-shooter Redfall, and the Resident Evil spin-off Umbrella Corps.
Less than 10% of the reviews for Overwatch 2 are positive, with players expressing dissatisfaction over Blizzard Entertainment’s controversies, the game’s monetization approach, and the feeling that the original Overwatch has been lost forever.
“I was moved to tears when Reaper exclaimed ‘BUY, BUY, BUY’ and locked the new heroes behind a battle pass while scrapping the Story Mode. Truly a game for the ages,” one review states.
Last week, Overwatch 2: Invasion was released, introducing a new hero, a new mode, and three new narrative missions centered around the battle between Overwatch and Null Sector. However, players interested in these missions must purchase the Invasion Bundle for at least $14.99.
This decision disappointed players who were looking forward to the cooperative, story-driven game experience that was canceled in May. Furthermore, Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that the next set of narrative missions will not be released until 2024 at the earliest.
In July, approximately 50 employees from the Blizzard Entertainment esports team were laid off. Despite this, Overwatch League commissioner Sean Miller has assured fans that there will be a “revitalized global scene” for the competitive game in the coming year.
