Voting for the first phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh took place in 20 seats amid strict security on Tuesday. Mizoram too voted on Tuesday. A total of 174 candidates were in the fray in the northeastern state.
Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Dr Raman Singh, Bhawna Bohra, Lata Usendi and Gautam, Congress’s Mohammad Akbar, Savitri Manoj Mandavi, former state unit chief Mohan Markam were among the key leaders in the first phase of Chhattisgarh election. The second phase for the Chhattisgarh assembly polls will be held on 17 November for the remaining 70 seats.

126 Villages Of Bastar Vote In Newly-Built Polling Stations
People of 126 villages in the Maoist-hit Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday cast their votes in polling stations set up for the first time since Independence, the Election Commission said. The poll body described the 126 new polling stations in the area as the “triumph of the ballot over bullet”, reported news agency PTI.
Mizoram recorded 77.04 per cent polling in the assembly elections held on Tuesday while 70.87 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in Chhattisgarh in the first phase of polling in 20 assembly seats in the state, according to Election Commission data at 5 pm, reported news agency ANI.

Nearly 69 per cent of 8.57 lakh electors cast their votes till 3 pm today in the Mizoram assembly elections, officials said. Polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 4 pm.

Mizoram Records 52.73% Polling Till 1 PM
Mizoram recorded 52.73 per cent polling while 44.55 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in Chhattisgarh till 1 pm in the first phase of polling in 20 assembly seats in the state, according to Election Commission data, reported news agency ANI.
Several soldiers have been injured in an encounter with the Maoists today in Chhattisgarh, which is voting in the first phase of polling.
The gunfight, which lasted around 20 minutes, took place in a forest between Tadmetla and Duled villages, officials said.
More than 44 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm in 20 constituencies during the first phase of Chhattisgarh assembly elections on Tuesday, a poll official said.
A CRPF commando was injured in an IED blast triggered by Naxalites in Sukma district while his unit was undertaking an area domination operation to ensure security during the polls.
A brief exchange of fire took place between Naxalites and security personnel near Banda polling station in Sukma district.
Nearly 53 per cent of 8.57 lakh electors cast their votes till 1 pm on Tuesday in the Mizoram assembly elections, officials said.
Polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 4 pm.
According to the polling trends, the voting percentage has been recorded at 52.73 in the first six hours of polling, as per the Election Commission data.
Of the 11 districts, Serchhip recorded the highest polling percentage of 60.37, followed by Khawzawl at 60.20 and Lawngtlai at 59.31 till 1 pm, it added.

Polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 4 pm.

More than 17 per cent of 8.57 lakh electors cast their votes in the first two hours of polling on Tuesday in the 40-member Mizoram assembly elections, officials said.
Polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 4 pm.
According to the polling trend, the voting percentage has been recorded at 17.28 till 9 am, an official said.
Mizoram Additional Chief Electoral Officer H. Lianzela said polling has been “peaceful and there has been no law and order issue till now”.
