Upcoming Tata Punch EV micro-SUV’s test mule spotted once again: Reveals new details

The country’s most popular micro-SUV, Tata Punch, is about to receive the much-anticipated EV iteration. The test mules of the upcoming Punch EV are now frequently spotted testing across the country. Most recently, another test mule of the Punch EV was spotted, revealing a few new key details about the design of this forthcoming vehicle. Tata Motors could be launching the new Punch EV later this year or early next year in 2024.

The newest spy shots of the Tata Punch EV, revealing new design details, come courtesy of Vipul Chavhan‘s video shared on his channel on YouTube. This newly spotted test mule’s video first shows the rear end of the vehicle. The person recording the video then shows the side profile and lastly shows the front end of this fully camouflaged test mule.

Tata Punch EV: Front end

From the spy video, we can note that the overall silhouette and the front-end design have been kept the same. However, there are a few major changes. The main highlight of the new Punch that can be noted is the addition of Nexon EV-styled LED headlights. Although not very clear due to the camouflage, most likely, the new Punch EV will come equipped with a similar LED headlight housing as the Nexon EV. It will most likely also get a redesigned LED DRL up top, and it could very likely be connected just like other new Tata SUVs. The company could also be updating the front bumper as well.

Side profile and rear-end design

Coming to the side profile, from the video, it can be noted that there will not be a whole lot of changes. The only major change that we can spot at the moment is the new Nexon EV facelift-styled 5-spoke aero alloy wheels. These wheels, however, just like the entire car, were covered by camouflage. Lastly, on the outside, although not visible, the new Punch EV could also get connected rear tail lights with an updated design for the LED tail light units. Most likely, the rear bumper will also be tweaked.

Tata Punch EV: Interior

Apart from the exterior updates, the new Nexon will get an updated interior as well. From the video, we can note that the main highlight of the new interior will be the addition of a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. At the moment, the entire layout of the new dashboard has not been revealed by any spy shot, but it could be tweaked a little bit with the addition of the touch-based HVAC controls, just like in the new Nexon and Nexon EV facelift models.

Tata Punch EV: Powertrain

Coming to the details about the powertrain of the upcoming Tata Punch EV, information is a little scarce. However, many experts speculate that the company could be offering the new Punch EV with the same Ziptron technology that also powers the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and Nexon EV.

Currently, the company offers the Tiago EV, the best-selling electric four-wheeler with multiple battery packs that provide different ranges. The Tiago EV hatchback comes equipped with a 24 kWh battery pack that delivers an MIDC-certified range of 315 km. There is also a smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack available, which offers an MIDC-certified range of 250 km. Most likely, these numbers will also be retained by the Tata Punch EV.
