Following the explusion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the the 17th Lok Sabha in a ‘cash for query’ case, TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Friday said that justice has been denied to Mahua Moitra.

“Justice has been denied to Mahua Moitra. They did not let us speak…they tried to muffle the democratic tradition. Parties of INDIA alliance came together on this,” Bandyopadhyay said.

Referring to TMC MP Mohua Mitra’s earlier statement that her Maa Kaali eats meat, smokes cigarettes and drinks whisky, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said that her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in the ‘cash for query’ case was due to the ‘curse of Maa Kali.’

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak extended support to TMC MP Mahua Moitra after she was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday, saying that she was “trapped.”

Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after a discussion on the report of the Ethics Committee in the ‘cash for query’ that was tabled in the Lower House today.

“A target was set that she (Mahua Moitra) was to be removed and then a strategic plan was made…She was trapped…Everyone knew that all this was done to suspend her…We are with Mahua Moitra,” Pathak said.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said if the method used to expel opposition MPs from the Parliament is applied on the ruling party, it will leave them with only a handful MPs in both Houses.

“In 2005, when 10 MPs were expelled, at the time the report was presented on the same day. This isn’t an issue related to women. She herself admitted of receiving gifts (from Darshan Hiranandani). What other proof is required now?” Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs told reporters in Friday.

Reacting sharply to her expulsion, Mahua Moitra equated the action with hanging by a “kangaroo court” and alleged a parliamentary panel was being weaponised by the government to force the opposition into submission.

She told reporters that she has been found guilty of breaching a code of ethics that does not exist and that there was no evidence of cash or gift given to her.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Locket Chatterjee, while talking about Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s ‘cash for query’ case on Friday, said that “there should be no politics on the issue of national security”.

Further, she added that action should be taken against someone who puts questions over national security.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from Lok Sabha is against the “natural course of justice”.

“The decision was taken based on the statement of the person who levelled the allegation and he is sitting in Dubai. It is against the natural course of justice,” Chaturvedi said.

Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday wrote to Speaker Om Birla urging him to postpone the debate on the Ethics Committee report on TMC member Mahua Moitra to enable members to prepare for a discussion on it.

Chowdhury said the matter was urgent and important and the members should get sufficient time to prepare themselves as the report is over 100 pages and exhaustive.
