NEW DELHI: 71% of smartphone users in India are open to exploring and changing their device based on the operating system (OS) experience offered, according to the findings of a survey by Cybermedia Research (CMR) released on Thursday. By contrast, 88% of smartphone users are satisfied with their current OS.

“This finding highlights the pivotal role that the smartphone OS plays in shaping overall user satisfaction and influencing purchasing decisions,” CMR said in the findings.

Ease of usage (56%) ranks first in terms of users’ key considerations for a smartphone OS, followed by security and faster launch (each 54%), respectively, as per the findings.

CMR said Indian users prioritise enhancing data security (65%) and boosting performance (62%) when updating their smartphone OS.

OnePlus’ OxygenOS, Apple iOS, and Samsung One UI, respectively, are the top operating systems (OSs) in terms of user satisfaction, as per the findings.

“In the pursuit of an exceptional smartphone user experience, consumers prioritize not just external hardware but also the smartphone OS and app experience. Smartphone users highly value intelligent OS enhancements that deliver seamless, lag-free experiences on their smartphones. Users also appreciate optimizations that enhance digital well-being and contribute to conserving battery life,” said Prabhu Ram, Head – Industry Intelligence Group at CMR.

The study covered 2,571 smartphone users in major Indian cities.
