An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 hit eastern Turkey on Thursday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said. The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), the EMSC said. No casualty has been reported so far.
A power of earthquake of magnitude 7.8 had jolted Turkey, near the border with the Syrian Arab Republic, in February 2023. This quake was followed approximately nine hours later by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake located around 59 miles (95 kilometers) to the southwest.
Five back-to-back earthquakes in Turkey back then had killed over 19,000 people and left tens of thousands injured in Turkey and Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had then declared a three-month state of emergency in 10 of the country’s provinces.

Earlier in on Thursday, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted the Kirgiz autonomous prefecture of Kizilsu in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Thursday, the second to hit the remote region in three days.
The quake in Aheqi County jolted the region at 6:21 am, PTI reported citing the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).
Three people were killed and five others injured when a 7.1-magnitude earthquake had jolted Wushi county and its surrounding areas in Aksu prefecture of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Pakistan on Wednesday, the National Centre for Seismology had reported. “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 24-01-2024, 16:16:41 IST, Lat: 36.39 & Long: 71.78, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan,” the NCS had posted on X.
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake had also struck the northern Chilean region of Tarapaca with a 118km depth on Wednesday, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The National Seismological Centre of Chile said the earthquake hit at 5.4 magnitude and was located 37 km north-east of Calama.
