Bhavna Chauhan on working with Ranveer Singh, Johnny Sins: Initially thought ad was with John Cena | Exclusive

It’s been a few days since Ranveer Singh surprised everyone with his latest commercial with porn star Johnny Sins. The ad, parodying a ‘saas bahu’ drama, is for a sexual healthcare brand, which also has Ranveer as an investor. Popular TV actor Bhavna Chauhan played the female lead Kishu in the commercial. She is left distraught by her husband’s (Sins) sexual health issues. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, Bhavna opened up about the now-viral advertisement and also reacted to the mixed feedback it has been receiving.

Excerpts from the interview:

‘NEVER THOUGHT JOHNNY SINS WOULD BE PART OF AN AD LIKE THIS’

Bhavna Chauhan, who played the female lead in the viral Ranveer Singh-Johnny Sins ad, shared how she auditioned for it after finding the script ‘hilarious’. She also confessed that she assumed the ad was with John Cena and not Johnny Sins. “I don’t know why I misread the name. But to think of it, never in my dreams, I thought that Johnny would be part of an ad like this. I thought wrestlers do a lot of work in India and so I was foolishly thinking it was going to be John Cena. Only after I got the final details, I found out it was Johnny Sins,” Bhavna shared with a loud laugh.

She added that it was then she realised why the casting team was re-confirming with her about her approval. “They kept asking me if I knew who was in the ad. They were making sure and I was confidently saying ‘Yes, I know John, we will do it’.”

‘IT IS THE BOLDEST PROJECT I HAVE DONE’

While the realisation came as a slight shocker to Bhavna Chauhan, she was quite comfortable about it. The actor added that her family was also quite ‘chill’ and no one questioned her decision. “It honestly is the boldest project that I have done as I have even stayed away from on-screen kissing till now. And seedhe Johnny Sins ke sath project kar liya (I straightaway did a project with Johnny Sins). There are people telling me I refused work because of certain scenes but how come I said yes to this. But they need to understand that it was done in a very classy way.”

The actor revealed how the makers edited out certain scenes which looked slightly bold and even toned down the drama and humour. “The director loved my audition and asked me to perform the same way. However, he asked me to tone it a bit as they did not want to make it a spoof,” she shared.

Here is the ad:

‘NO ONE MADE FUN OF THE TV INDUSTRY’

Bhavna addressed the criticism that the ad received for ‘making fun of TV shows’ and said, “They are marketers and understand the ripple effect of such things. Honestly, the original script was funnier but they altered it accordingly. The intention has always been to make it look like a normal scene from a TV show so that it’s viewed casually by everyone at home. They wanted the topic to be normalised.”

Bhavna said that she doesn’t disregard actors like Rashami Desai, who showed their displeasure at the ad. However, as a part of the industry, she never felt TV was disrespected during the making of the ad, as she said, “Koi mazaak nahi udaaya hai (No one made fun of the TV industry).”

‘RANVEER SINGH AND MY ENERGY QUITE MATCHED’

The actor also opened up about working with Ranveer Singh and how he was a ‘pro’ on set. She added, “It was so much fun being around him. Our energies quite matched and he also told me how he liked my work. As for Johnny Sins, since I was so preoccupied with my lines and shoot, I did not get a chance to interact much with him. But he was quite cooperative and professional. We all had a fun time shooting together.”

On a final note, Bhavna Chauhan laughed at how fans have been sharing the craziest feedback. “One of them told me how I should be awarded for being the first woman to have worked with Johnny Sins without being intimate with him. It was so funny,” she shared with a smile.
