Meenakshi Seshadri, who made waves in Bollywood during her brief but impactful career, remains a fan favourite nearly three decades after her last film. Bursting onto the scene in 1983 with Painter Babu and hitting it big with Hero, she quickly became one of the leading ladies of her time.
Recently, Meenakshi reminisced about her golden days in a chat with Lehren Retro. She dished on her films with Anil Kapoor and Sunny Deol, and even spoke candidly about a controversial kissing scene with Anil Kapoor in Vijay (1988). “I could do it (only) because of Yashji and Anil. They were both very professional, laid back and relaxed. And, I kind of knew that on screen it was going to look well-managed and not perverted, weird or sleazy,” she revealed.
She revealed that a kissing scene in Dacait (1987) was cut by the censor board and didn’t make it in the final edit. “The same happened with Sunny… We had a kissing scene in Dacait, but the censors (Censor Board aka Central Board of Film Certification – CBFC) cut it. So, the audience never got to know (that there was supposed to be such a scene). I think, my major successes are with Sunny. Even today, my fans keep requesting me to do a film with Sunny,” she recalled.
Her last filmi appearance was in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghatak: Lethal, alongside Sunny Deol. Apart from Dacait and Ghatak, Meenakshi and Sunny also teamed up in Inteqam, Joshilaay, Ghayal, Kshatriya, and Damini. After her Bollywood stint, she married US-based businessman Harish Mysore in 1995, right at the height of her fame.
