WhatsApp to have new entry point for privacy checkup soon – Technology News

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is working on a new feature that will allow easy access to privacy screen. According to WaBetaInfo, the chat app has introduced a new feature that allows users to easily access the privacy checkup screen and it is available to some beta testers on Android. The said feature provides a convenient way for users to review and adjust their privacy settings at any time.

Previously, users had to wait for WhatsApp to prompt them with the privacy checkup banner before they could access the feature. With the new update, however, users can now find a dedicated entry point for the privacy checkup directly within the privacy settings screen. This change offers greater flexibility and control, allowing users to proactively manage their privacy settings whenever needed.

The privacy checkup feature is designed to guide users through a series of steps, helping them configure their privacy preferences according to their needs. It covers essential settings such as who can see your profile photo, last seen status, about information, and who can add you to groups.

The new entry point for the privacy checkup is currently available to select beta testers who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. WhatsApp is gradually rolling out this feature to more users over the coming days.

Separately, WhatsApp is also working on a new privacy feature called “Username and PIN” that will allow users to enhance their privacy on the platform. With this feature, users will have the option to replace their phone numbers with usernames when interacting with new contacts, keeping their phone number hidden. However, existing contacts who already have the phone number will still be able to see it. Additionally, users can choose the “Username with PIN” option, where they will use a four-digit PIN to connect with others; only those who know the PIN will be able to contact them. Despite this, existing contacts will still be able to reach the user even if the PIN is activated.
