Top 7 Tweaks To Expect For iPhone’s Phone App

Apple, a Cupertino-based tech giant, is expected to unveil the iOS 18 update soon after the launch of the iPhone 16 series (likely on September 10). While we can expect the OS to start rolling out after the release of the devices, iPhone users can expect notable changes in the Phone app. To begin with, Apple will introduce call recording and transcribing features in the upcoming iOS update.

Here are the top changes to expect from the Phone app with the update.

Call Recording: The recording function for a live call will likely be available within the Phone app in iOS 18.1, according to MacRumors. Both parties will be informed that recording has started via an audible message. This recording will appear in the Notes app.

Transcription and Summarisation: The call recordings in the Notes app will be transcribed for easy accessibility. In the transcribed note, the “Summary” button will return a summary of the entire conversation, which will be searchable with keywords. However, the feature will require Apple Intelligence. Do note that the transcription feature will be available in select languages.

Smarter Dialing: MacRumors added that the Phone app may get T9 dialling support to enable searching for names instead of characters. For example, for contact with the name ‘Ram’, you may type 7 for R, 2 for A and 6 for M. This should display the contact card with the name ‘Ram’. The app will also suggest contacts as you type their number. The “More” option may display additional options.

SIM Card Switching: iPhone users may get the option to switch SIM cards from the Control Center, unlike the Settings app earlier. Users may head to connectivity controls and swap numbers with a long press on the Cellular Data option.

Indian Fonts and Numerals: On its iOS 18 Preview, Apple highlights fonts in different Indian scripts for creating a poster. “This visual identity is part of your contact card, so you’ll see it in the places where you communicate and share,” Apple said.

Call Search: Users will get the option to quickly find contacts by entering their name or mobile number in the search bar or keypad in the Recents tab. The feature will also support searching previous calls, voicemails (the transcribed ones) and contacts within the Phone app. It will also support date, call type and other search parameters.
