Baldur’s Gate 3 is Currently the Highest-Rated PC Game to Date on Both Metacritic and Opencritic

Baldur’s Gate 3, the latest installment from Larian Studios, has achieved the highest PC game rating on both Metacritic and Opencritic.

This third entry in the iconic Baldur’s Gate series was initially released on PC after a substantial early-access period. It is also set to launch on PlayStation 5 next month, with an Xbox Series version currently in development. However, the Xbox release has encountered challenges in implementing split-screen functionality on the Xbox Series S.

Following its successful launch earlier this month, we previously reported that Larian Studios’ game shattered Steam’s concurrent player records and currently holds the title for the best-selling game on Valve’s platform. It is indisputable that Baldur’s Gate 3 is off to an exceptional start. To further recognize the game’s achievements, we are pleased to share that this party-based RPG currently holds the highest PC game rating ever on Metacritic and Opencritic – an extraordinary feat. Referencing the screenshots from both websites below, the ratings exceed those of renowned titles such as Half-Life 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto V, The Orange Box, Elden Ring, and various other gems.

Not only that, but when looking at this year’s releases, Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently the highest-rated game of the year (on Metacritic) across all platforms. It surpasses Nintendo’s hit title The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime Remastered, and the next-gen release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Furthermore, Opencritic has deemed it the highest-rated game in history across all platforms, surpassing Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, RDR2, Elden Ring, and reaching the same level as Super Mario Odyssey.

Admittedly, Baldur’s Gate 3’s current rating is based on ‘only’ 26 critical reviews on Metacritic and 40 critical reviews on Opencritic, whereas Tears of the Kingdom has amassed over 140 critical ratings on both platforms. Consequently, it is reasonable to assume that as more critical reviews are published, Baldur’s Gate 3’s average score will be somewhat lowered. Nevertheless, it is highly probable that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be recognized as one of the greatest games ever created. In our review, we expressed the following:
