Baldur’s Gate 3 – Should You Side With Nightsong Or Lorroakan

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the third act presents players with a dilemma: whether to side with Nightsong or Lorroakan. This decision plays a significant role in the conclusion of the Nightsong arc that occurs in the Lower City. Spoiler alert: the following article contains spoilers.

Throughout the game, the Nightsong, Dame Aylin, plays a crucial role, and players must decide whether to save or kill her when they reach her prison. It is recommended to keep her alive as it ensures the survival of other characters and provides a better storyline arc for Shadowheart. If she survived the battle against Ketheric Thorm, she will stay in your camp and continue Shadowheart’s quest.

To find Lorroakan, players can visit the Sorcerous Sundries shop in the Lower City. The shop contains a hidden vault with ancient tomes of immense power. On the second floor, players will encounter Lorroakan’s projection. Inform him about the Nightsong, and you will be presented with four different portals. The correct portal is the far-left one, indicated by the plaque that describes the Nightsong as an immortal being and the child of a deity. Interacting with the other portals will result in your character being incapacitated.

Now, let’s delve into the decision between Nightsong and Lorroakan. If you choose to give Nightsong to Lorroakan, he instructs you to bring her to his tower. Upon returning to your camp and speaking to Nightsong and Isobel, Dame Aylin flies off to confront Lorroakan. However, there is a potential bug here that may cause Nightsong or Lorroakan to be dead upon your return to the tower. It is advisable to head back to the tower promptly after conversing with Dame Aylin.

In the tower, you will have three dialogue options: “It’s over for you wizard,” which triggers a battle against Lorroakan and his elemental minions, or the other two options, which result in a fight solely against Dame Aylin. Choosing the Deception responses will convince Lorroakan that the Nightsong is gone forever.

Both decisions come with their own rewards. If you side with Lorroakan and fight Nightsong, you will receive the Inspiration: The Karsus of Our Times (Sage). Additionally, Lorroakan and his elemental constructs join you for the final fight. However, there may be bugs in this branch, potentially resulting in no reward or Inspiration point.

On the other hand, if you side with Nightsong and fight Lorroakan, be prepared for a challenging battle. Lorroakan has Elemental Retort, a powerful counterattack that deals quad-elemental damage. Counterspell at rank 4 or higher can nullify this attack. However, without it, your party members may easily die due to the tremendous damage dealt by Lorroakan’s elementals. It’s crucial to ungroup your team and reposition them in the tower before speaking to Nightsong in the camp to avoid being clustered together, making them vulnerable to area-of-effect spells.

Victory against Lorroakan’s forces will reward you with the Inspiration: Stopping the Repetition of History (Sage); How High They Fall (Haunted One), the weapon Despair of Athkala, the clothing Shelter of Athkala, and the allies Nightsong and Isobel for the final battle. However, be aware that there is a possibility of not receiving any Inspiration points even after choosing this path.

After the battle, a cutscene ensues where Nightsong unleashes her powerful spell, Bane, before leaving the camp temporarily with Isobel to help those in need. Rest assured, they will return for the final battle. This marks the conclusion of the Nightsong’s arc, regardless of whether you sided with her or not.
