Bangladesh Premier League 2024: Taskin Ahmed aspires to lead Bangladesh in future, wishes to go ‘step by step’

Taskin Ahmed said that he aspires to lead the Bangladesh men’s cricket team going into the future. In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, it has mostly been Najmul Hossain Shanto, who has captained the national team.

The 25-year-old Shanto also led the Tigers in the World Cup 2023 match against India when Shakib missed out due to an injury. However, Bangladesh’s prime fast bowler said that he wanted to go ‘step by step’ to fulfil his dreams.

“Yes, of course. Why not, every player has a dream. Everything will happen step by step,” Taskin was quoted as saying.

IS DHAKA GOOD ENOUGH? TASKIN ANSWERS

Taskin was earlier named as the vice-captain of Durdanto Dhaka in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 alongside captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat. The speedster said that both of them need to step up for their team in the tournament.

“Our team is very young. There is Sujon sir, there is Mosaddek, I am also there, there are many other experienced cricketers. Maybe due to availability problems, many foreign cricketers arrive late, some are not available at the right time. If we can organize the team that we have and play with unity, it will definitely be good,” Taskin added.

On Friday, Dhaka made an incredible start to their campaign after beating defending champions Comilla Victorians by five wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Taskin got the crucial wickets of Imrul Kayes and Towhid Hridoy to finish with impressive figures of 4-0-30-2. After last playing in the World Cup on Indian soil, Taskin returned to professional cricket on Friday. Taskin has been a key part of the Bangladesh pace attack across formats, especially in the last two years.

Dhaka will next be up against Chattogram Challengers, who also got off to a winning start, on Monday, January 22.
