Blue Beetle’s Caparax Talks About the ‘Fascist Batman’ Joke and More

Blue Beetle, the latest instalment from DC has now hit the theatres, telling us the story of a brand new superhero. Ahead of the movie’s release, Caparax actor, Raoul Max Trujillo commented on various aspects of the movie such as the Fascist Batman joke, Xolo Maridueña’s acting, director’s experience and much more.

Caparax Shares His Thoughts on Fascist Batman Joke

In an interview with ScreenRant, Trujillo was asked about how he felt about George Rudy as Rudy Reyes calling Batman a Fascist, to which he had an interesting answer. Trujillo starts by explaining that he “wasn’t quite” sure about what that line meant and he thinks they were just writing Batman off. “It was a hidden message”, which basically meant “f—k Batman, Blue Beetle!” Trujillo adds. Trujillo also states that he could see it in a way that Batman comes from the elite and “the elite will always protect the elite”. He concludes by stating “either way, it’s just a very funny line”.

Trujillo Talks About Xolo Maridueña’s Performance

In the same conversation with ScreenRant, Trujillo was asked what he felt about the protagonist of the movie, Xolo Maridueña, to which he had a very heartfelt response. Trujillo started off explaining that he maintained distance from Maridueña to stay true to his character, but complemented his acting, calling it “effortless and “a true gift”. Trujillo also explained how he felt Maridueña came from the same place as when he started off, he was also called a “natural” and was asked not to “study” or “think about it too much”.

Trujillo Comments on Working With Susan Sarandon

While talking to Screenrant, Trujillo also spoke about working with Susan Sarandon, who plays Victoria Kord in the movie, known for her work in films like Thelma and Louise and Arbitrage. As soon as Trujillo met Sarandon, he thought “this is going to be fun” as there was no awkwardness and she “puts everybody at ease right away”. Director, Angel Manuel Soto also appreciated their “strong dynamic” and Sarandon “brought so much always” that it ended up helping Trujillo with his character.

Trujillo Commends Angel Manuel Soto’s Experience

Lastly, in the same conversation with ScreenRant, Trujillo also commended Angel Manuel Soto’s experience in the industry, describing him as “absolutely brilliant”. Trujillo talks about Soto’s “prep work” for the movie, which was animating the whole film beforehand. This provided actors with all the cues they needed and all they needed to do was “show up and hit those marks”. Trujillo says that he brings “technical proficiency” along with “playfulness” which is very rare. Trujillo concluded by saying, “I cannot say enough about that man. He’s incredible”.
