Elijah Garcia vs. Armando Resendiz

Round 1: Here we go y’all. Main card is underway! Middleweights open the show for us. Lots of empty seats in the T-Mobile Arena right now. Veteran referee Tony Weeks is your third man in the ring. Garcia pops out his jab. Both men taking their time and using their lead hands to measure distance. Garcia is nonstop with that jab, just touch-touch-touching. Nice counter left from Garcia. Resendiz fires off a flurry. Garcia responds with an uppercut that snaps Resendiz’s head back. Huge straight left by Garcia puts Resendiz on wobbly legs!! He’s smelling blood now. Garcia smacks Resendiz a few more times but he survives to the bell. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Garcia.

Round 2: Resendiz comes out on a mission, throwing punches in bunches and trying to make up the gap after a shaky first round. Garcia is rolling with most of these. More shots from Resendiz, and he’s starting to find a home with some of these now. Oh, nasty hook from Resendiz. Garcia needs to get something going. Another machine-gun burst of punches from Resendiz. Big round for him. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Resendiz. (19-19 overall.)

Round 3: Now it’s Garcia who comes out with more urgency. He splits the guard of Resendiz and smacks him with a stiff left. Resendiz circles and paws out his jab. This is a gotdang fire-fight, y’all. Garcia swarms with a flurry of shots inside the pocket. Resendiz tries to fire back but eats a hard left-hand counter for his troubles. Nonetheless, Resendiz continues to stalk forward with his jab. Garcia is grinning, he’s having the time of his life in there. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Garcia. (29-28 Garcia.)

Round 4: Immediate collision in the center of the ring and we’re back at it. Resendiz is apparently averaging more than 100 punches thrown per round, and Garcia isn’t far behind. Garcia hangs back and cracks Resendiz with a counter left. That was nice. He’s picking his shots now. Hard right hand from Resendiz but Garcia responds with a slick flurry. Resendiz snaps Garcia’s head back with a jab. Stiff one-two lands for Garcia. Wild exchange from both men. Hell of a round. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Garcia. (39-37 Garcia.)

Round 5: Both men go right back to work. Resendiz staying active with his jab to the head and body, but Garcia seems to have his timing a bit more figured out. Garcia playing defense and cracking Resendiz with counters. Oh, big combination by Garcia! That was slick. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Garcia. (49-46 Garcia.)

Round 6: Resendiz’s jab is relentless, but Garcia’s defense is negating most of it. Garcia unloads a beautiful five-punch combination that cracks Resendiz something fierce. Resendiz answers with a combination that snaps Garcia’s head back. Those are his best shots in a while. Garcia is still sitting back and waiting on counters, and they’re money. Round 7: It’s frankly impressive that Resendiz is taking some of these punches as well as he is. Garcia shells up and puts his jab in Resendiz’s face. Heck of a three-punch combination from Garcia. Garcia goes low then high, but Resendiz just keeps marching forward and winging looping hooks. One-two from Garcia. He smacks Resendiz with a left hand. Resendiz plants a stiff jab in Garcia’s face only to eat a big counter in return. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Garcia. (69-64 Garcia.)

Round 8: Resendiz comes out firing punches in bunches. Oh, nasty one-two comes back at him from Garcia. Huge body shot from Garcia!!! Resendiz crumbles to the canvas. That’s only the second time Resendiz has ever been dropped in his career. He makes the standing eight count, but Garcia is on him now. Garcia traps Resendiz in the corner and UNLOADS with punches! This is almost over! And that’s it, Weeks steps in to save Resendiz!!! Hell of a performance tonight by Garcia.

Yordenis Ugas vs. Mario Barrios

Round 1: Welterweight action up next. This one is for the WBC interim welterweight title. Ugas, 37, has been sidelined since getting knocked out by Errol Spence Jr. in April 2022. Barrios, 28, just defeated Jovanie Santiago this past February. Thomas Taylor is your referee. And we’re off. Very measured start from both men. Barrios finally uncorks a nice combination as Ugas comes inside. Ugas staying patient and picking his shots. Barrios flurries but misses. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Barrios.

Round 2: Barrios pumps his jab and circles. That’s been his best weapon so far. Ugas slowly punches to the body Barrios is on it. Barrios smacks him with a right hand. Ugas finally flurries but misses. Barrios triples up his jab but can’t find his mark. Ugas plods forward and whiffs with a looping left. Barrios has been the more precise fighter so far. And BOOM — just like that, Barrios knocks the former champ to canvas!!! Ugas answers the count and there’s the bell. Looks like a perfect counter jab that knocked Ugas down. MMA Fighting scores it 10-8 Barrios. (20-17 Barrios.)

Round 3: The last time Ugas hit the canvas was nine years ago. Heck of a feat for Barrios. Ugas dials up his aggression to start Round 3 but Barrios is slipping anything major. Barrios goes back to the body with success. Hard left hook for Barrios. Ugas storms forward with punches in bunches, and he may have found a good one with a body shot. If that hurt, Barrios isn’t letting it show. Wild exchange at the bell. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Ugas. (29-27 Barrios.)

Round 4: Barrios charges forward repeatedly pumping with his jab. That totally took Ugas off his rhythm early. Barrios retakes the center of the ring and digs to the body. Ugas answers with a flurry to the body of his own. Now they’re slugging. Big exchanges in the center of the ring from both men. Ugas pops Barrios with a slick straight right hand. Barrios circles and jabs, but eats an overhand right for his troubles. Ugas hangs back and picks his shot, cracking Barrios with a left hand. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Ugas. (38-37 Barrios.)

Round 5: Ugas’ corner badly wants him to throw the left hook. Barrios circles and repeatedly paws out his jab, trying to find his range. Ugas double jabs then goes to the body. That was nice. Ugas is trying his hardest to stay busy here, Barrios still circling and committing to his jab. Counter left hand connects for Ugas. Barrios fires back a hard left. Ugas misses with a wild overhand right in the corner and they tie up. Ugas smacks Barrios with another right. These are some close rounds. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Ugas. (47-47 overall.)

Round 6: Barrios storms forward and staggers Ugas with his jab. Ugas did not expect that. Ugas recollects himself and retakes the center of the ring. Barrios on the back foot now, still working his jab. Ugas blocks an uppercut inside the pocket. Ugas is on the offensive here, throwing punches in bunches. Barrios finds a home with a beautiful jab followed by a left hook. Lovely shot there. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Barrios. (57-56 Barrios.)

Round 7: Barrios unloads a lightning-quick four-punch combination to kick things off. Ugas goes downstairs with body work only for Barrios to do the same more effectively. Barrios triples up with his jab. Barrios is feeling himself now, Ugas’ right eye is a swollen mess. Ridiculous overhand right hand misses badly for Ugas. Barrios makes him pay with another flurry. Round 8: Barrios goes body then head to start. They trade punches for a heavy exchange inside the pocket. The referee warns Ugas for going too low. Ugas whiffs on another wild overhand right. That was a tough look. Barrios flurries and makes him pay. Another big exchange but neither land flush. This is still anyone’s fight. Barrios sticks his jab repeatedly in Ugas’ face. Round 9: Barrios charges inside and wings a couple combinations to the head and body. Barrios is finding his rhythm now. His trainer is pleading for him to go to the body and Barrios obliges with glee. Ugas works to back him into a corner but Barrios evades and retakes the center of the ring. Barrios splits the guard with his left. Ugas connects on an overhand right. Barrios continues to pour on more body work. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Barrios. (87-83 Barrios.)

Round 10: Ugas’ corner implores their fighter to have urgency. They let him know he’s not winning a decision tonight. The referee calls the doctor to look at Ugas’ right eye — and it’s not looking too hot. It’s totally swollen shut. Nevertheless, we continue. Ugas pumps his jab. Barrios goes low then high and batters that right eye. Barrios is clearly targeting that eye now, and Ugas is totally focused on protecting it. Barrios peppers Ugas with jabs and right straights. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Barrios. (97-92 Barrios.)

Round 11: Ugas digs an uppercut to the body but eats a slew of punches to that right eye for his troubles. That thing looks baaaaad now. Ugas’ vision has to be badly compromised. Barrios bounces on his heels then uncorks a lightning-quick flurry. He’s in total control here. More punches in bunches for Barrios. The referee warns Ugas again to keep his punches above the belt line. Barrios is finding a home with his left hand any time he wants. Another shot and Ugas looks like he might be on shaky legs. Barrios flurries again. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Barrios. (107-101 Barrios.)

Round 12: The doctor takes another long, loooong look at Ugas’ right eye, but he’s going to let him finish this out. Barrios comes out FIRING. Oh, huge shot by Barrios!!! Ugas crumbles to the canvas. Somehow, Ugas makes the count. His eye is beyond bad now. Barrios pounces with punches. He’s on the hunt now. The referee calls time to give Ugas back his mouthpiece, and that may have been fortuitous — it gave Ugas a chance collect himself. Barrios catches him clean again and there goes the mouthpiece again — and this time Taylor deducts a point from Ugas for spitting out his mouthpiece. Barrios wants this knockout. Punches galore from Barrios now. He’s swarming with everything he has. Ugas somehow lands a sick counter right! That may have been his best shot of the night.
