N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set for a comeback in Andhra Pradesh after a stunning victory in the state’s Assembly polls show. The party contested the polls in alliance with BJP and Pawan Kalyan’s JanaSena Party.
The party has announced that Mr Naidu will take oath as the Chief Minister on June 9 and PM Modi will attend the ceremony. YSRCP chief Jagan Reddy conceded defeat saying the results were”surprising” but his p[arty accepted the people’s mandate.
In Odisha, BJP triumphed as it crossed the halfway mark while Naveen Patnaik’s ruling BJD was left behind. The counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha began at 8 am.
The Odisha Assembly polls seek to elect 147 members to the state’s Legislative Assembly. The state voted for the Lok Sabha Elections and the assembly polls simultaneously from May 13 to June 1, over four phases.The ruling Biju Janata Dal is eyeing another term in the state under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has held the post for over 24 years. The BJD is contesting on 147 seats, BJP on 147 seats, Indian National Congress on 145 seats, Communist Party of India (Marxist) on 7 seats.
In Andhra Pradesh, Assembly Elections were held on May 13, along with the Lok Sabha polls. Seeking another term, the YSRCP contested on all 174 seats alone, while the TDP fielded candidates on 144 seats. Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) contested on 21 seats and the BJP on 10 seats. Key contenders include Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRCP), TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, JSP’s Pawan Kalyan.

At 1.30pm, five hours into counting of votes, the BJP is leading on 75 seats while the BJD is leading in 57 seats and the Congress has made gains on 12 seats.
TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu has stated he will take oath as the chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time on June 9 in Amravati.
Four hours into counting of votes, the TDP is leading on 144 seats while the ruling YSR Congress has trailed behind in Andhra Pradesh. In Odisha, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark with leads on 79 seats even as Naveen Patnaik’s ruling BJD is leading on 49 seats. Congress has secured the third place in Odisha with gains in 13 seats.
At 11.30, BJP has crossed the majority mark in Odisha even as BJD made gains on 49 seats.
At 11 am, BJP is leading on 71 seats while ruling BJD has made gains on 40 seats. At third place, Congress is leading on 11 seats.
TDP leads on 131 seats in Andhra Pradesh. YSR Congress is trailing behind, with gains on only 21 seats.
At 10am, BJP has made strong gains on 58 seats in Odisha. The ruling BJD is lagging behind with gains on 3 seats while Congress is placed third with gains on 13 seats.
At 10 am, TDP is leading in 123 seats in Andhra Pradesh while ruling YSR Congress is lagging behind with gains on 22 seats.
In Odisha, BJP has made strong gain in 28 seats while the ruling BJD is leading on 18 seats. Congress has made gains on 2 constituencies.

Both TDP and BJP are leading in 7 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, respectively.
TDP’s Gorantla Butchaiah Choudary is leading in Rajahmundry Rural constituency.
According to the Election Commission, the counting will take place at 33 locations across the state which will have 2,446 tables for Assembly constituencies.
Similarly, 557 tables have also been arranged for counting postal ballot votes for Assembly seats.

Votes for the Assembly elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh has begun.
The exit polls have predicted a rise in vote share for BJP while the Congress is predicted to remain at a distant third with a voter share of around 4 per cent.
According to Axis My India exit poll, BJD and BJP are expected to win 62-80 seats in the 147-member legislative assembly in Odisha. The Congress is expected to win 5 to 8 seats.
The exit polls further said that the BJP is expected to gather a 48 per cent vote share while the BJD is predicted to get a vote share of 42 per cent.
In the 2019 legislative assembly elections, Naveen Patnaik-led BJD posted a thumping victory winning 112 seats out of 147 in the state. Patnaik was sworn in as chief minister for a fifth consecutive time since 2000. The BJP won 23 and the Congress managed to win nine seats in 2019.
