Check out the latest Switch games unveiled at the Nintendo Direct

Nintendo recently held its highly anticipated Nintendo Direct livestream event on Wednesday, June 21, and it was filled with exciting announcements for the Switch gaming console. Prior to the event, there were not many new games scheduled for release on the Switch this fall. However, after the event, it is clear that this holiday season will be one of the best for the Switch. We have gathered all the details about the new Switch games that were revealed during the Nintendo Direct event, including a new 2D Mario and some unexpected remakes.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

  • Release date: October 20, 2023

The Switch will soon see the arrival of the first new 2D side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. game. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will feature six playable characters (Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi) and a variety of new power-ups. One exciting addition is the Wonder Flower, which completely transforms the course. The game also introduces Elephant Mario.

Super Mario RPG

  • Release date: November 17, 2023

The beloved classic Square Enix adventure, Super Mario RPG, is receiving a makeover for the Switch. The game will feature new graphics as Mario, Bowser, Peach, Mallow, and Geno team up to retrieve seven stars and repair the Star Road.

WarioWare: Move It!

  • Release date: November 3, 2023

The underrated WarioWare series makes a comeback on the Switch with WarioWare: Move It! This new game features more than 200 microgames that utilize the Joy-Con controllers. It also offers a Party Mode where you can play with up to three friends locally.

Detective Pikachu Returns

  • Release date: October 6, 2023

Tim Goodman and the talkative Detective Pikachu are back to solve more mysteries in Ryme City, with the assistance of other Pokémon characters.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

  • Release date: December 1, 2023

The spin-off series of the popular Dragon Quest games, Dragon Quest Monsters, makes a comeback after seven years with a new adventure. Players will embark on a journey with the cursed prince Psaro as he captures, combines, and battles with various monsters he encounters around the world.


These were the standout highlights of the Nintendo Direct event, but there were also a few surprises:

  • The Nintendo 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, originally released in 2013, is getting a remastered version for the Switch in 2024.
  • A new game starring Princess Peach is currently in development for the Switch and is expected to launch in 2024.
  • HD versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2 are now available for download on the Nintendo eShop.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Wave 5 will introduce eight new courses and three additional characters, including Petey Piranha, Wiggler, and Kamek, to the game this summer.
