Chhattisgarh Assembly Election Results 2023 Live Updates: Unlike the exit polls’ predictions, BJP is now leading in Chattisgarh. Congress which was best placed to retain power is now trailing. The counting of postal ballots was completed at 8.30 am and the counting via EVMs is currently underway.

In the months leading up to the state Assembly elections, the Congress party was a divided house in Chhattisgarh but it tried to gloss over the differences by elevating state minister T S Singh Deo, the main challenger to CM Bhupesh Baghel, as the Deputy Chief Minister in June this year. The BJP, on the other hand, went into the election without a clear face. In the 2018 elections, Congress had ended the CM Raman Singh-led BJP’s 15-year run to come to power, as Baghel got the top post in the state.

The Baghel-led Congress party , in its campaign, banked on the welfare schemes where they said to have spent Rs 1.75 lakh crore. However, the BJP poked holes in the welfare schemes with alleged corruption allegation though no case has been registered. The BJP star campaigners including PM Modi also targeted the Baghel government over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases like coal levy, illegal liquor sale and Mahadev app.
