Deputy CM TS Singh Deo trails against BJP’s Rajesh Agarwal

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo lost the Ambikapur seat by the skin of his teeth on Sunday. BJP’s Rajesh Agarwal won the seat by just 94 votes.

Ambikapur is an Assembly constituency in the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. The Ambikapur legislative assembly constituency went to polls on November 17 in the second phase.

All the 90 Assembly seats in Chhattisgarh went to polls in two phases on November 7 and 17. Ambikapur is known as a strong bastion of Congress as deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader TS Singh Deo has retained it since 2008. This time, he is contesting against BJP leader Rajesh Agarwal.

In the 2018 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly elections, TS Singh Deo won from Ambikapur by defeating Anurag Singh Deo of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In the 2018 assembly polls, TS Singh Deo garnered 1,00,439 votes, securing 56.19% of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 39,624 votes. In percentage terms, the victory margin of TS Baba in Ambikapur was 22.17%.

In the 2008 and 2013 Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha elections, Singh Deo also retained the seat.

The total number of voters in the Ambikapur constituency stands at 2,55,479 with 1,26,231 male voters and 1,29,236 female voters. The Ambikapur constituency has a literacy level of 60.01%.
