Keith David, an acclaimed actor, has been chosen to portray Commander Zavala in the highly popular game Destiny 2 after the unfortunate passing of Lance Reddick.
Bungie, the developer of the game, confirmed this exciting news in a blog post published on August 10. They revealed that David will lend his voice to Zavala moving forward, while Reddick’s existing voice lines will remain untouched as a tribute to the late actor.
In response to his new role, David expressed his honor in continuing the remarkable work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. He praised Reddick for capturing the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully and stated his intention to carry on that legacy.

Keith David’s voice may already be familiar to gamers, as he previously collaborated with Bungie to voice the character Arbiter in the renowned game Halo. Additionally, he has contributed his talents to other gaming franchises such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the Mass Effect series.
Commander Zavala, the Titan Vanguard, has played a prominent role in the Destiny series since its launch in 2014. Reddick portrayed the character until his unfortunate demise, and his final voice lines for the game were released in June 2023.
Besides his portrayal of Zavala, Reddick was an avid fan of playing Destiny. Following his passing, Blake Battle, the project lead at Bungie, fondly remembered playing the “Wrath Of The Machine” raid with Reddick. Battle recounted Reddick’s enthusiasm for playing as a Warlock and his expertise in mastering the raid mechanics.
Moved by Reddick’s demeanor, Battle described him as kind, sociable, and patient, someone you would want to add to your friends list to play with again. Reddick’s presence left a lasting impression on the community.
