Wakanda forever!
It appears that the highly anticipated Black Panther game is indeed a reality. Electronic Arts has officially announced Cliffhanger Games, a new AAA development studio based in Seattle, as the developer for the game.
Cliffhanger Games is led by Kevin Stephens, a seasoned industry veteran who previously served as the Studio Head of Monolith Productions. Monolith Productions is renowned for their work on Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Shadow of War.
“Our goal is to provide fans with an immersive and authentic Black Panther experience, allowing them unprecedented agency and control over the game’s narrative. Wakanda is an incredibly rich superhero sandbox, and we are dedicated to crafting an expansive world for players who share our love for Black Panther,” said Kevin.
Black Panther will feature an original story and will be a third-person single-player game. Cliffhanger Games will collaborate closely with Marvel Games to ensure that the game captures the essence and authenticity of Wakanda.
It seems like every major publisher now has a stake in the Marvel universe. Sony has Spider-Man under their belt, while Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal recently released Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.
This venture marks Electronic Arts’ return to the Marvel universe since the release of Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects in 2005. With Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set to launch on October 20th and the exciting announcement of the Black Panther game, Marvel fans have plenty to look forward to.
