India has been involved in several issues in the Russia-Ukraine war and the country has been consistently engaged in reducing tensions, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said when asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi averted a Russian nuclear attack on Israel.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Jaishanakar said, since the beginning of the conflict, “there have been a number of issues we have been involved in. We haven’t been very public and explicit about them.”
In many cases, one or the other party or a third party or an international organisation has asked us to weigh in in some form, he added.

“And if we believe that doing so was helpful, ideally at this time, I would say, frankly, that the world wants the conflict to end. But it is not something that anybody is expecting in the near term.
“The most sensible thing, at this point, is to help solve at least one problem, or reduce one tension or relieve one worry. There have been a lot of these discussions, quite honestly more than you probably know, including sometimes, fairly recent ones,” the minister said without directly mentioning the nuke attack.
He added, “We do what a responsible country which has good relations with everybody does.”
To a repeated question specifically about averting a nuclear attack, he said, “We have been continuously doing what we have been doing to reduce tension and avoid events that do not make things worsen.”
A recent report by CCN has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outreach, coupled with diplomatic efforts from various countries, played a pivotal role in preventing Russia from a “potential nuclear attack” on Ukraine.
