Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Trailer Delivers Chaotic Banter and Easter Eggs

The much-anticipated film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, has just unveiled a captivating new trailer. After its initial reveal at San Diego Comic-Con last year, this latest trailer offers a more in-depth glimpse into the villains, packed with thrilling Easter eggs and chaotic events that unfold as if the players have rolled multiple 1s on the dice. Originally scheduled for a July 2021 release, the movie adaptation experienced several setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and internal challenges. However, it has now settled for a planned drop in 2023. Fans can mark their calendars for the worldwide theatrical release of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves on March 31.

The trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves opens astutely by showcasing the sharp contrast in personalities between the lead characters. We witness Holga the Barbarian, played by Michelle Rodriguez, brutally overpowering a group of goons, while the cowardly bard, Edgin, portrayed by Chris Pine, attempts to cleverly free himself from rope handcuffs by rubbing it against the stairs. Edgin exclaims, “You know what? I think there are probably sharper stairs somewhere else!” Meanwhile, Holga fearlessly continues to take on the bandits singlehandedly. The trailer then reminds us of the film’s premise, as Edgin leads a band of rogue adventurers on a fantastical quest to retrieve an ancient relic. This relic is none other than a mysterious magic horn that our heroes inadvertently handed over to the wrong person, thus unleashing the “greatest evil the world has ever known.”

Xenk, a serious Paladin portrayed by Regé-Jean Page, describes the dire situation to our heroes, informing them that the Red Wizards have assembled an army of undead. The Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves trailer then delves into showcasing the unique abilities of each character. Sophia Lillis plays Doric the shapeshifter, who seamlessly transforms into various animals, enabling her to maneuver through the tightest of spaces. On the other hand, Justice Smith portrays Simon the sorcerer, whose spellcasting abilities exhibit an extraordinary level of unpredictability.

We catch glimpses of their epic battle against Sofina, one of the Red Wizards of Thay, played by Daisy Head, who conjures a spectral meaty hand to capture Doric. As mentioned earlier, the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves trailer is brimming with Easter eggs for fans to discover. Co-directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley revealed some of these secrets in an in-depth IGN interview. The trailer features a chunky version of the Embershard, characterized as a glutton in the lore. Additionally, Dark Souls players will recognize the mimic chest, which opens wide with a set of sharp teeth once triggered.

The film embraces the playful nature of the eponymous tabletop role-playing game, and it boasts an all-star cast. Hugh Grant takes on the role of Forge Fitzwilliam, the cunning Rogue, who initially appears friendly with our heroes but has his own hidden agenda. Grant has previously described the film as having a “Monty Python sensibility” when it comes to humor.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters worldwide on March 31. In India, the film will be available in Tamil and Telugu as well.
