Extra Polish Causes One-Month Delay for Immortals of Aveum

Ascendant Studios has recently announced the delay of their highly anticipated debut game, Immortals of Aveum, a first-person magic shooter. CEO Bret Robbins shared a message from the team, expressing their excitement for the public’s reaction to the game. However, they have decided to postpone the release by a few weeks in order to polish and optimize it for all platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.

The new release date is set for Tuesday, August 22nd, which is nearly a month later than the original launch date of Thursday, July 20th. This means that Immortals of Aveum will face tough competition from other long-awaited releases such as FromSoftware’s Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (out August 25th), Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate III (out August 31st), and Bethesda’s Starfield (out September 6th with early access beginning on September 1st). Despite the competition, Immortals of Aveum has shown promising gameplay, as seen in the footage below captured by our very own Kai Powell at Summer Game Fest 2023.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5.1, Immortals of Aveum is one of the first titles to utilize the advanced Lumen global illumination system and Nanite virtualized geometry system. The official system requirements for PC, as shared by Ascendant Studios, are quite high:

STORAGE 110 GB (SSD strongly recommended) 110 GB (SSD strongly recommended)

Ascendant Studios has mentioned that these requirements may decrease as further optimizations are implemented, which is their main focus during this delay.

In terms of gameplay, the developers have confirmed that Immortals of Aveum will feature a Call of Duty-style campaign, but with a much longer duration. The estimated play time is over 25 hours, not including the side content. The game will incorporate Metroidvania elements, requiring players to revisit areas after unlocking specific abilities in order to progress through exploration and puzzles.

If you want to learn more about Immortals of Aveum, I conducted an interview with Executive Producer Kevin Boyle that provides additional insights. Remember, the game is currently available for pre-order, and all editions come with the exclusive pre-order bonus, the Purified Arclight. This unique blue sigil enhances the protagonist’s blue Strike spells and Shatter Fury spell, granting them even more power.
