The highly anticipated film, Kraven the Hunter, based on the iconic Spider-Man villain, has unveiled its first trailer and poster. The captivating footage showcases intense violence, a strained father-son relationship, and a thrilling glimpse of The Rhino.
Kraven the Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on October 6, 2023, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson portraying the formidable Spidey antagonist, who first appeared in the 1964 comic The Amazing Spider-Man #15.
The poster, reminiscent of the cover art from 2018’s The Amazing Spider-Man #17, presents Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven perched atop a throne constructed from bones.
Furthermore, the trailer reveals Kraven sprinting through a city in civilian attire. We catch a glimpse of his father, Nikolai Kravinoff, portrayed by Russell Crowe, with their relationship portrayed as unhealthy and tumultuous.
Nikolai imparts messages centered on being the dominant predator in any scenario and never displaying weakness. We learn that he abandoned Kraven’s mother to perish after she succumbed to mental illness and weakness, and we witness him subjecting his own son to a similar fate for failing to kill a lion.
Although Kraven survives, a substance enters his bloodstream, endowing him with superhuman abilities. He embraces his true calling and gains the power to employ animals in tracking his prey. According to the trailer, “once you’re on his list, there is only one way off.”
The preview also hints at this iteration of Kraven the Hunter as an anti-hero, for he seeks to counterbalance the evil his father has unleashed upon the world. It showcases a plethora of intense violence, including Kraven biting off a victim’s nose, a striking shot featuring numerous spiders, and an exciting glimpse of Aleksei Sytsevich transforming into the formidable Rhino.
