Get ready for an exciting Bollywood weekend! This Friday, August 11, two highly anticipated movies, Gadar 2 and OMG 2, are set to hit the cinemas. The enthusiasm for both films among moviegoers is palpable. However, based on advance booking figures, Gadar 2 seems to have the upper hand and is expected to have a successful opening weekend. On the first day alone, Gadar 2 has already sold nearly 400,000 tickets in advance, while OMG 2 is struggling to compete, having not crossed the 100,000 mark yet.
But that’s not all. Gadar 2 managed to sell 110,000 tickets on Wednesday alone, bringing the total advance booking count to over 391,000. It has become the second film of the year, after Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, to generate such immense interest among movie lovers.
Number of screens
Gadar 2 is scheduled to release on over 3,500 screens, marking Sunny Deol’s first film to have such a wide release. Despite the buzz surrounding Gadar 2, the film’s makers are striving to secure more screens. However, with OMG 2 also premiering on the same day, it will be challenging for Gadar 2 to reach its full potential.
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2 is lagging behind Gadar 2 in terms of screen count. The film will be released across 2,000 screens in India and a little over 300 screens in overseas markets.
Certification by CBFC
Gadar 2 has received a ‘U/A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), while OMG 2 has been given an ‘A’ certificate. The CBFC has also requested the makers of OMG 2 to make approximately 27 modifications to the film. However, OMG 2 has obtained a 12+ certificate in the UAE with no alterations.
About the films
Gadar 2 follows the story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakina (Ameesha Patel) after Independence. The trailer reveals that their son has been detained and tortured by the Pakistani army, forcing Tara to take matters into his own hands.
In contrast, OMG 2 tells the story of a devoted devotee of Lord Shiva who is forced to leave his town when his son is accused of immoral conduct at school. However, his encounter with a messenger of Lord Shiva instills courage in him and convinces him to fight for his son.
