Genshin Impact 4.0 Update Adds Fontaine Area, Global Illumination and Gyroscope Support

Developer HoYoverse (formerly known as miHoYo) has officially released the highly anticipated Genshin Impact 4.0 update across all platforms. This update, titled ‘As Light Rain Falls Without Reason’, introduces the majestic Fontaine area to the game. Players will have the opportunity to explore three new regions: the Court of Fontaine Region, Beryl Region, and Belleau Region.

In order to access these new areas, players must first complete the Archon Quest Prologue: Act III “Song of the Dragon and Freedom”. This will unlock a Teleport Waypoint in the Realm of Farakhkert in Sumeru, allowing players to travel to Fontaine. Upon unlocking the Teleport Waypoint, players will also receive a Primogem reward as a bonus.

Discover the wonders of Fontaine with the help of Fontaine’s Blessing, which enables players to dive underwater and explore hidden areas and uncover the long-lost mysteries within. Additionally, players will receive Hydro Sigils during their time in Fontaine. These can be thrown into the Fountain of Lucine outside the Opera Epiclese to increase its level and obtain various rewards.

Adding to the excitement, the Genshin Impact 4.0 update introduces three new playable characters: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Lyney, a 5-star Pyro character, wields a bow and possesses the Elemental Skill “Bewildering Lights” and the Elemental Burst “Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade”. Lynette, a 4-star Anemo character, wields a sword and possesses the Elemental Skill “Enigmatic Feint” and the Elemental Burst “Magic Trick: Astonishing Shift”. Freminet, a 4-star Cryo character, wields a claymore and possesses the Elemental Skill “Pressurized Flow” and the Elemental Burst “Shadowhunter’s Ambush”.

Furthermore, the update introduces three new domains: the Domain of Forgery: Echoes of Deep Tides (requires Adventure Rank 16 or higher), the Domain of Blessing: Denouement of Sin (requires Adventure Rank 22 or higher), and the Domain of Mastery: Pale Forgotten Glory (requires Adventure Rank 27 or higher).

Among other additions, players can look forward to encountering two new bosses with unique attacks and movement, acquiring new weapons and recipes, and much more.

The Genshin Impact 4.0 update also brings two major technical enhancements. The first is Global Illumination, which is now automatically available on PlayStation 4/5 and can be toggled as a graphics setting on PC (requires 4GB or more VRAM). The second is gyroscope support, now available on PlayStation 4/5 and PC for those using a DualShock 4 or DualSense controller. For full details on the update, refer to the official blog.
