Google AI Update: Pixel 8 Phones Get These New Useful Features In June 2024

Apple might have stolen all the big headlines with its AI updates this week but Google isn’t keen to let its focus slip away. The company announced its own set of AI features at the I/O 2024 earlier this year and now some of them are coming to its Pixel devices. The latest Pixel Drop update June 2024 is getting a big chunk of those AI features (via the 0.97GB update) that any Pixel 8 user can experience and enjoy.

The updates are available across the entire Pixel lineup, which includes the Pixel Watch and the Pixel Tablet but all eyes are on the upgrades that come to the premium Pixel 8 series this month.

Pixel Drop June 2024 Update – New AI Features For Pixel 8 Series

The biggest change is that Google is finally giving access to the Gemini Nano AI model to those using a Pixel 8 or a Pixel 8a phone. As you might know, the Pixel 8 Pro was already offering the AI model from day one of its release but these models were uncertain to get them because of the supposed hardware limitations. Looks like Google has found a way around those issues to bring Gemini Nano to these Pixel 8 models.

AI Powered Audio Transcription

We saw Apple’s take on transcribing calls with iOS 18, Google is bringing its AI-powered feature to the default recorder app that comes in Pixel phones. You can start recording a conversation and the AI tech will help you with the transcription for the entire thing so that you don’t have to sit and hit play-pause to write them down. You can even get a summary for them and export into text files or straight to Google Docs.

Pixel 8 Connects To Big Display

Just plug the Pixel 8/8 Pro or 8a phone to an external display using its built-in USB C port.

Find My Phone, Even When It’s Off

The much-awaited update to Find My Device is here and now you can search for the Pixel phone if it is turned off or the battery is completely dead. The data of your location is secure behind encryption

Look Up Phone Numbers

Use this feature to search for unknown numbers from your call log as long as you use the default Google Phone app on the Pixel phone.

AI Wallpapers For Variety

Google is also adding the AI wallpaper feature for Pixel users so that you can let the technology select a home screen image based on your preferences. You will find the option hidden in the Wallpaper section which can be triggered by long-pressing on the main screen and then head over to More wallpapers where AI will be waiting to help you out.
