‘Grand Theft Auto’ Cluckin’ Bell Eatery Receives Legal Order to Stop

In a turn of events, the team behind the recreation of two restaurants from the popular game Grand Theft Auto is altering their plans after receiving a cease and desist letter from Take-Two Interactive’s legal representatives.

Smokin J’s BBQ and Boyworldwide had intended to set up pop-up versions of Cluckin’ Bell and Burger Shot at Comic Con San Diego this week, according to a report by Rockstar Intel. Unfortunately, Take-Two Interactive did not grant permission for the use of their intellectual property, disappointing Grand Theft Auto fans.

“Last night, we received a cease and desist letter from the law firm representing Take-Two Interactive. As a result, we have unfortunately had to cancel the planned Burger Shot event for this weekend (at Comic Con),” stated an email sent by Smokin J’s BBQ to Rockstar Intel.

“However, we will still be hosting a spoof installation called ‘Dont Cluckin Tell’ next weekend, inspired by Cluckin’ Bell,” Smokin J’s BBQ added.

This isn’t the first time that Smokin J’s BBQ and Boyworldwide have collaborated on a Grand Theft Auto-themed pop-up project. Last year, they successfully created a Cluckin’ Bell Chicken Restaurant, complete with uniforms, menus, and signage from the game.

Given the success of the previous pop-up, it’s understandable why the team wanted to expand by including a Burger Shot. However, it seems that Take-Two Interactive took action to halt the project before fans could experience it.

In other gaming news, fans of the gaslamp fantasy survival game Nightingale are celebrating the addition of a requested third-person mode by the developers.
