Here’s how you can clone your voice with AI in iOS 17

iOS 17 may not be as revolutionary as the previous update, but it still offers a range of exciting new features and functionalities.

One notable addition is the two-factor message auto clean-up feature, which adds an extra layer of security to your conversations. Another useful feature is NameDrop, which allows you to easily exchange contact information while on the go. Additionally, iOS 17 lets you create your own stickers, giving you a fun new way to express yourself.

Apple is also keeping up with the advancements in AI technology. The new iOS introduces a lesser-known feature called ‘Personal Voice,’ which allows users to generate an AI clone of their voice. This feature is particularly helpful for individuals with speech disabilities or those who rely on text-to-speech communication. It can also be a valuable tool for those at risk of losing their ability to speak.

To access Personal Voice, you must be running either the iOS 17 Public Beta or the iOS 17 Developer Beta, as the stable build is not yet available. Instructions on how to get the beta can be found here.

Setting up your personal voice takes approximately 30 minutes, but you can choose to complete it over a longer period if you prefer. The process involves reading out 150 short sentences, which are used to create an AI clone of your voice.

  • To begin, go to Settings and scroll down to tap on Accessibility.
  • Continue scrolling and select Personal Voice.
  • Tap on ‘Create a Personal Voice’ to start the setup process.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and tap ‘Continue’ at each step.
  • Name your voice and you’re ready to start recording.

If you are unable or prefer not to complete all 150 sentences in one go, you can simply tap the ‘Done’ button and resume at a later time. Your progress will be saved in the ‘Personal Voice’ menu under Accessibility.

Once your Personal Voice is recorded, it will be processed in the background. This can take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. However, once set up, you can type out your message and have it spoken in your voice during phone calls, FaceTime calls, and in-person conversations.
