Hogwarts Legacy Casts Simon Pegg as Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black

Hogwarts Legacy, the highly anticipated game set in the world of Harry Potter, has unveiled its star-studded voice cast for its upcoming release on February 10th. Among the talented actors lending their voices to the game is Simon Pegg, known for his roles in Hot Fuzz and as Scotty in the Star Trek reboot, who will portray the Headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black. Fans of the Harry Potter series will recognize Phineas as one of Sirius Black’s ancestors, whose portrait can be seen hanging in Albus Dumbledore’s office in the movies.

In a behind-the-scenes featurette, Pegg describes Phineas as the “least popular Headmaster” in Hogwarts’ history, conveying a disinterested and self-interested attitude towards his role at the prestigious wizarding school. Pegg explains that Phineas is more interested in the status and recognition that comes with being the headmaster rather than fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.

Despite sharing the same lineage as the brave and noble Sirius Black, Phineas lacks these qualities himself. Pegg characterizes him as a “self-interested fool” who will both help and hinder players in their quests and classes throughout the game. As the highest authority at Hogwarts, Phineas’s childlike behavior goes unquestioned by the teachers, leading to swift and often one-sided arguments. Interestingly, Phineas Nigellus Black was the last Slytherin headmaster of Hogwarts before Severus Snape assumed the role.

The game will also feature other notable actors in the voice cast, such as Lesley Nicol from Downton Abbey, who will voice Matilda Weasley, the Deputy Headmistress. Luke Youngblood, known for his role as the Gryffindor Quidditch commentator Lee Jordan in the Harry Potter films, will switch teams to Ravenclaw and voice the character Everett Clompton, described as an underachieving prankster. Asif Ali and Amelia Gething will portray Ravenclaw student Mahendra Pehlwaan and the female character archetype, respectively. Kandace Caine and Sohm Kapila will lend their voices to the roles of Professor Onai and Professor Satyavati Shah.

The game is set in the 1800s, long before the events of the Harry Potter series, and allows players to create their own wizard or witch character and embark on an enchanting adventure in the magical world of Hogwarts. Throughout the game, players will engage in various magical classes and hone their skills in potions, herbology, and curses, among others. They will also have the opportunity to align themselves with allies who will guide them on quests. While the game offers an expansive open world to explore, developer Avalanche Software has confirmed that Quidditch will not be playable.

Hogwarts Legacy will launch on February 10th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. The release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has been delayed until April 4th, and Nintendo Switch users will have to wait until July 25th to experience the magic.
