The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards have been delayed and will not take place on their original date of September 18th.

An anonymous source has confirmed to USA TODAY that the awards show will be postponed to January 2024 due to ongoing strikes by both writers and actors in Hollywood. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, along with Fox, will host the event.

A new date for the awards ceremony, as well as the host, has yet to be announced.

This news comes as no surprise, as Hollywood actors voted to strike earlier this month, joining the already-striking writers. As a result, numerous movies and TV shows have been affected, causing delays and production shutdowns. The Daytime Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for June 16th, were also postponed due to the strike.

The Television Academy and Fox had kept the September date for the Emmys as a placeholder, but it is now clear that the event cannot proceed as planned.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Television Academy and Fox for an official statement, but a representative from the academy declined to comment.

According to a report from Variety, vendors and other parties involved in the Emmys were recently informed that their services would need to be rescheduled for a later date.

Emmy snubs 2023: Steve Martin, Harrison Ford, and ‘Yellowstone’ left off nominations list

The 2023 Emmy nominations were announced on July 12th, shortly before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. The HBO drama “Succession” received the most nominations with a total of 27, including a nomination for Best Drama. The Tony Awards took place in June, featuring a modified ceremony hosted by Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose, with no scripted banter during the presentation of awards.

This is the first time since 2001, following the 9/11 attacks, that the Emmys have been postponed. The awards were ultimately presented seven weeks later in November.
