Embarking on one of the earliest main story missions in Baldur’s Gate 3, you are tasked with saving Halsin, the First Druid of Emerald Grove. Halsin’s capture by goblins threatens to escalate the conflict between the Druids and Tieflings in the grove. This guide will provide you with the precise location of the goblin camp and, more importantly, how to locate Halsin within it.
Locating Halsin in the Goblin Camp
If you are still in Emerald Grove, you must travel west to reach the goblin camp. The journey is quite lengthy, as the camp is situated on the opposite side of the map from the grove.
From the Emerald Grove Environs waypoint, head due west until you reach Blighted Village, a town overrun by goblins. The village is identifiable by its red-roofed buildings and is northwest of the Roadside Cliffs waypoint. Refer to the screenshot below for the location of the goblin camp beyond Blighted Village.
To bypass Blighted Village, you can either sneak past the goblins, negotiate your way out of combat, or engage in a battle with them. I suggest utilizing your character’s persuasion abilities to navigate the dialogue checks, but the choice is yours. After passing Blighted Village, continue west until you reach the first section of the goblin camp. From there, head north to reach the main part of the camp and the Goblin Camp waypoint.
At the Goblin Camp waypoint, head southwest towards the courtyard area where the goblins gather to roast various animals and converse. Proceed north from this point, and you will encounter a towering ogre beside a set of large doors. Enter through these doors to arrive at the Shattered Sanctum, but be prepared to pass another dialogue check from the goblin guarding the entrance to progress further.
Once inside the sanctum, continue straight until you reach a grand throne, where Priestess Gut presides. Just beyond the throne, to the right, you will find a wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left to locate three goblins near a door. Enter the door, and you will enter the Worg Pens. Descend the stairs on the right side to find goblin children surrounding a bear in a cage.
This bear is Halsin, who has transformed into this form in an attempt to escape his goblin captors. Engage in dialogue with the woman overseeing the children, and you will have several options: intimidating them to release the bear, allowing them to continue torturing the bear, or initiating combat. If you choose to free Halsin from the cage, further choices await you: attacking the bear, attacking the goblins, or leaving the bear for the goblins to handle.
At this juncture, you must make a decision. If you desire Halsin to become a future companion and ally with the Emerald Grove’s Druids, opt to attack the goblins. Conversely, if you wish to side with the goblins and potentially attack Emerald Grove, eliminating Halsin is the appropriate course of action. Alternatively, you can choose to allow both factions to follow their own paths and observe the outcome.
In any case, you have found Halsin, and you can now progress your questlines in Baldur’s Gate 3.
